In 2017, the Minister of Education and Culture, upon receiving the recommendation of the Museum Council, allocated a total of 106,542,700 kr. from the Museum Fund.
From the main allocation of the museum fund, a total of 97,329,000 kr was awarded, of which project grants totaled 72,229,000 kr for 86 projects, in addition to which 25,100,000 kr was allocated for operating grants to 38 museums. A total of 146 project applications were received, and grants ranged from 150,000 kr. to 2.0 million kr.
A total of 9,213,700 kr. was awarded from the supplementary allocation of the Museum Fund for 35 professional development grants for accredited museums.
