227th Board of Trustees Meeting

Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Meeting Location: Safnahúsið, Hverfisgata 

Present: Vilhjálmur Bjarnason, Chair; Gunnhildur Ásta Guðmundsdóttir, Vice Chair; Helga Lára Þorsteinsdóttir; Inga Lára Baldvinsdóttir; and Hlynur Hallsson.  

The meeting was attended on behalf of the principal collections: for the National Gallery of Iceland: Ingibjörg Jóhannsdóttir; for the National Museum of Iceland: Harpa Þórsdóttir; for the National Museum of Natural History of Iceland: Anna Guðný Ásgeirsdóttir. 

Staff of the Board of Trustees: Þóra Björk Ólafsdóttir, Executive Director, who writes the minutes, and Klara Þórhallsdóttir.
 

1. Matter for presentation

  1. Overview of the council's activities since the last meeting. 
  2. Main Allocation 2024 – Announcement. The application deadline for the 2024 Main Allocation of the Museum Fund was November 1st. A total of 147 one-year applications were received, amounting to a total of 297,375,931 kr. Three Öndvegi applications were also received. A total of 49 entities submitted applications: 42 accredited museums, 4 non-profit organizations, 2 individuals, and 1 non-profit corporation (operating entity). 
  3. The Executive Director presented the status of the reports on the use of grants from the Collections Fund. 
  4. A letter from the association of art museums was presented to the meeting. 
  5. Strategic Plan Action Plan – Presentation of the brochure layout.
  6. Main Allocation 2024 – submission of application materials, review of rules and potential conflicts of interest. This item of the meeting was on the agenda after item 3. Other issues and were seated with him Vilhjálmur Bjarnason, Gunnhildur Ásta Guðmundsdóttir, Helga Lára Þorsteinsdóttir and Inga Lára Baldvinsdóttir, along with Þóra Björk, the executive director.

2. Matters for Decision

  1.  Three were approved Visitor reports for Supervision of accredited museums. 

3. Other matters

  • The implementation of a project on museum response plans (emergency plans) was discussed, and it was approved to have Nathalie Jacqueminet work on the project for the museum council.  
  • The meeting time for the 228th Board of Trustees meeting was set.
