221st Board of Trustees Meeting

1. Presentation case

  1. Overview of the council's activities since the last meeting.  
  2. The allocation ceremony of the Museum Council and the Ministry of Culture was held on Monday, February 13, where the Minister of Culture presented grants to recipients from the 2023 main allocation of the Museum Fund. The total grant amount from the 2023 main allocation of the Museum Fund is 153,010,000 kr. A total of 209,510,000 krónur has therefore been allocated from the museum fund in 2023 through the Öndvegis grants for periods 21-23 and 22-24. There were 101 one-year grants totaling 136,510,000 kr. awarded to 50 recipients. The 2023-2025 Öndvegi grants for accredited museums numbered five and are distributed as follows: for the year 2023 kr. 16,500,000, for the year 2024 kr. 21,500,000, and for 2025, 11,500,000. The total amount for the entire grant period is 49,500,000 kr. The allocations for 2024 and 2025 are subject to the museum fund's funding. 
  3. Final draft of the action plan is presented to the Board of Trustees before it is sent to the lead collections for review. 
  4. A talk from the National Museum of Natural History of Iceland.  
  5. The status of the Industrial Museum in Akureyri was discussed. 
  6. A message from the Sverrir Hermannsson Museum of Trivia, which will be closed in the coming days. 
  7. The message from the Icelandic village was discussed.

2. Matters for decision

  1.  Follow-up of the monitoring visit approved. 

3. Other issues

Three other matters were discussed: the planning of a project on museum emergency plans; follow-up on changes to the facilities of accredited museums; and a visit report for one museum was presented to the meeting and approved.
