Minutes of the 9th meeting of the Board of the Museum, at Lyngás 7, Garðabær,
August 29, 2002, at 1:00 PM.

Present were: Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir, Anna Guðný Ásgeirsdóttir, Álfheiður Ingadóttir, Jón Gunnar Ottósson, Jónína A. Sanders, Sigrún Ásta Jónsdóttir, Jóhann Ásmundsson and Þorgeir Ólafsson. Ólafur Kvaran and Gísli Sverrir Árnason excused their absence. Auður Sigurðardóttir took the minutes.

M.H. called a meeting and announced that museum board members and alternates were invited to a meeting once a year for the processing of grants from the 2003 museum fund.

The guest of the meeting was Jón Björnsson. He spoke about his tour around the country with the National Monuments Officer regarding the museum policy.

Seven meetings were held with parties connected to the cultural heritage, and the meetings were attended by museum staff, tourism representatives, business development professionals, local government officials, and others. A report on the trip is expected in November 2002.

1. Applications to the Museum Fund for 2003
Applications for the 2003 museum fund were submitted. Because so many museums have not submitted an application, it was decided to extend the application deadline to September 15, 2002. This will be announced in the Museum List and in the Official Gazette. Please note that applications received after September 15 will not be considered.

2. Symposium
A symposium is planned for this spring to mark the 30th anniversary of the Convention on World Cultural and Natural Heritage, and M.H. will cover it at the Museum Educators' Conference on September 11-13.

3. Procedures of the Collection Council
Draft procedures for the Museum Council will be sent to council members with the next meeting notice, and are also available on the National Museum's website under "New on the Web." Written comments from council members are requested for the next meeting.

4. Staff member of the Board of Trustees.
The National Museum has incurred administrative costs for the Museum Council this year. The Board of Trustees approved that the National Museum of Iceland be paid from the museum fund for the administration of the fund for the year 2002, and MH has written a letter to the Ministry of Education requesting that the approved 5% administration fee, kr. 2.9 million, be paid. be paid to the National Museum of Iceland.

Application from the Farm Machinery Museum at Hvanneyri for a grant for registration in Sarp.
It was agreed that a grant of ISK 100,000 would be awarded.

Application from the Dalvík Folk Museum for a grant for registration in Sarp.
It was agreed that a grant of ISK 100,000 would be awarded.

Application from the Eastland Museum for a grant for registration in Sarp.
It was agreed that a grant of ISK 100,000 would be awarded.

Application from the Eastland Museum of Technology for a grant for registration in Sarp.
It was agreed that a grant of ISK 100,000 would be awarded.

Letter from Kristján Ahronsson dated August 16, 2002, requesting permission to transport soil samples from the archaeological investigation at Seljalandshelli to Scotland for further research. A report from the National Monuments Council, dated August 29, 2002, was submitted. It was approved to permit the export of the samples.

Presentation by Jesse Byock and Phillip Walker dated August 29, 2002, requesting permission to transport artifacts and human remains from an archaeological investigation at Hrísbrú in Mosfellsbær. Reviews from the State Historic Preservation Office and the National Museum of Iceland were presented. It was approved to permit the export of the artifacts.
