Minutes of the 5th meeting of the Museum Council, at Lyngás 7, Garðabær,
March 13, 2002, at 2:15 PM.

Present: Thorgeir Ólafsson, Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir, Ólafur Kvaran, Álfhildur Ingadóttir and Sigrún Ásta Jónsdóttir. Gísli Sverrir Árnason announced his absence.

1. Grants:
Mrgrét Hallgrímsdóttir presented proposals for grants from the museum fund for the year 2001. There was considerable discussion about the proposals.
Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir proposed that the operating grant for those eligible for an operating grant be distributed in a lump sum so that all eligible recipients would receive the same amount, this time one million krónur. This was approved.
It was approved that the total allocation from the fund would be kr. 52,400.
It was approved that 24 museums receive operating grants totaling 24 million króna.
Approved to grant 51 project grants totaling kr. 28,400.
It was approved not to provide specific grants for participation in the Sarpi database.
It was approved that Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir would write a letter informing the applicants of the council's decisions.

2. Licensing for the export of cultural property
Margret Hallgrímsdóttir presented a letter that had been received regarding ***

3. Procedures of the Museum Council
Margret Hallgrimsdottir presented the procedures that the House Preservation Fund has established and pointed out that there was much to be learned from them.
It was discussed that it was important to follow up on grants, for example, by requesting a report on how the grant was used.

4. Other matters.

The need to hire a staff member to handle the administration for the fund and the council was discussed, as it involves a significant amount of work. Thorgeir Ólafsson has sent a memo to the minister, but has not received a response. It was agreed that Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir would send a letter to follow up.
The committee's meeting location was discussed, and the committee members felt it was natural for the committee's location to follow its chairperson, at least for the time being.
