Minutes of the 7th meeting of the Board of the Museum, at Lyngás 7, Garðabær,
May 16, 2002, at 11:00 AM.

Present were: Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir, Álfheiður Ingadóttir, Ólafur Kvaran, Jóhann Ásmundsson and ?. Auður Sigurðardóttir, archivist of the National Museum of Iceland, wrote the minutes.

1. Minutes

Minutes were presented and approved.

2. Advertisement for grants 2003

A notice regarding grants for museums for the year 2003 was presented, and it was approved to advertise in Morgunblaðið, Sveitastjórnarmál, the Official Gazette, and on Safnlisti. The notice will also be published on the National Museum of Iceland's website. The National Museum's Finance Director was tasked with handling the implementation so that the advertisement would be published in early June.

3. Policy of the Board of Trustees

Drafts of the board's policy were discussed and comments were made. It was agreed to call the drafts procedures. Committee members will review them and submit them with their comments within a week.
It was discussed that the council for museums would enter into performance management agreements with the museums that receive grants.

4. Message from the UNESCO Committee

The communication from the Icelandic UNESCO Commission dated April 23, last was taken up. The Council on Collections intends to draw attention to the fact that the United Nations General Assembly has decided that the year 2002 will be dedicated to cultural values to mark the 30th anniversary of the Convention on World Cultural and Natural Heritage, as requested in the committee's communication.
The Council of Museums is therefore planning to hold a seminar in September, for example at the National Cultural House, if possible. Topics would include, among others, the new museum law and the new operating environment for museums in Iceland, museum policy in the field of national heritage preservation, issues concerning UNESCO's World Heritage List, cultural tourism, and the role of national cultural institutions.
The Collection Council is considering inviting domestic and international speakers to the symposium, e.g., Birgitta Hoberg from the Swedish National Heritage Board.
MH wrote a letter to the Ministry of Education requesting the ministry's cooperation in the organization and planning of the symposium, and the participation of the Minister of Education in the event.

6. Message to the Museum Council

A submission from the Parliamentary Committees of the Althingi was presented, requesting comments on a proposal for a parliamentary resolution on Nordic cooperation and Icelandic local area policy. MH wrote a letter to the Committee Office of the Althingi stating that no comments were made on the draft resolution.

Application from the Egil Ólafsson Museum for registration in Sarp. It was approved to grant a 100,000 króna grant.
