Minutes of the 8th meeting of the Museum Council, at Lyngás 7, Garðabær,
June 20, 2002, 1:00 p.m.
Attendees were: Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir, Álfheiður Ingadóttir and Ólafur Kvaran.

1. Minutes
The minutes of the last meeting were presented and approved.
2. Advertisement for grants 2003
An advertisement for the 2003 grants, which was published in early June, was submitted.
3. Museum Council Rules of Procedure
The Museum Board's procedures were distributed for review and trustees were asked to bring them to the next meeting along with comments.
4. Seminar in September
The idea of a symposium in September 2002 was discussed to mark the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. It was agreed to explore the possibility of obtaining a grant from the Swedish Embassy to invite Keith Wikander here on that occasion. The symposium will, among other things, discuss new museum laws.
and the new working environment for museums in Iceland, museum policy in the field of national heritage preservation, issues of the UNESCO World Heritage List, cultural tourism and the role of national cultural institutions.
5. Museum Council employee
Discussion regarding an employee of the Museums Council. MH was tasked with investigating the status of the matter within the Ministry of Education.
6. Message to the Museum Council
A report by the Icelandic Toy Museum Association on the organization's activities was submitted for information.
A submission from the Ministry of Education and Culture from the Egils Ólafsson Museum regarding funding for the project "The Village - the Microworld: Reality and the Poet" was submitted. The processing was postponed and referred to the processing of grants for the year 2003.
Application from the Suðurnes Regional Museum, Reykjanesbær, requesting a grant for Sarp. Approved to provide a grant of ISK 100,000.
Application from the Akranes and surrounding area local museum, requesting a grant for Sarp. Approved to provide a grant of 100,000 ISK.
Application from the Snæfellsjön and Hnappdæla Regional Museum, requesting a grant for Sarp. Approved to provide a grant of ISK 100,000.
7. Other issues
Margrét announced the founding of Sarp 2.0 Management Company on June 21, 2002.
No further business was discussed and the meeting adjourned at 2:00 PM/AS.
