233rd Board of Trustees Meeting

Present: Vilhjálmur Bjarnason, Chair; Gunnhildur Ásta Guðmundsdóttir, Vice Chair; Helga Lára Þorsteinsdóttir; Inga Lára Baldvinsdóttir; and Hlynur Hallsson.

Representing the main museums, the following attended the meeting: For the National Gallery of Iceland: Ingibjörg Jóhannsdóttir; for the National Museum of Natural History of Iceland: Ragnhildur Guðmundsdóttir; for the National Museum of Iceland: Harpa Þórsdóttir.

Staff of the Board of Trustees: Þóra Björk Ólafsdóttir, Executive Director, who writes the minutes, and Klara Þórhallsdóttir.

1. Matter for presentation

  1. Overview of the council's activities since the last meeting.
    Visit of the Director General, Director of Cultural Affairs, and the liaison to the Museum Council to the office of the Museum Council on May 10, last.
    Staff of the Council of Museums visited Gljúfrasteinn on May 17.
    International Museum Day was celebrated on May 18, and the Icelandic Museum Awards were presented on that day.
  2. Klara Thorhallsdottir gave an overview of the status of monitoring accredited collections.
  3. The look of the Board of Trustees' Knowledge Portal was presented. Work on the content installation will begin this fall.
  4. The planning for the council's Fall trip, which will this time be in the Westfjords, was discussed.

2. Matters for Decision

3. Other matters

  • A symposium of the National Museum Council, ICOM, and FÍSOS, held on May 14 at Kjarvalsstaðir, was reported on. Museums for education and research.
  • Harpa Þórsdóttir spoke about the work of a working group on brown signs in which she is a participant.
  • Vilhjálmur Bjarnason reported on a matter concerning Maria Julia BA. As things stand, the affairs of this boat are not under the purview of the council or the fund.
