Hilmar Malmquist was unable to attend. The meeting was held in Seyðisfjörður, as this year's annual trip for the museum board was in Eastfjords.

1. Presentation case

  1. Overview of the council's activities since the last meeting.
  2. The Executive Director reported on the status of digital archiving and records management. The National Archives Council will implement a new records management system in the fall of 2021 and has had a new classification scheme approved by the National Archives of Iceland.
  3. Strategy for Museum Work – Action Plan. The Museum Professionals' Institute will host the first workshop on an action plan. See-Ráðgjöf will run the workshop, which will be in the familiar format of group work where each group discusses one objective, followed by a discussion and presentation of the groups' findings.
  4. The next application cycles for the museum fund were discussed: the 2021 supplemental allocation and the 2022 main allocation. The same grant opportunities will be offered in the 2021 supplemental allocation as were available in the 2020 supplemental allocation.
  5. The procedure for the Board of Museums' Allocation Meeting for the 2021 main allocation was presented. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 13, in Stykkishólm at the Museum Workers' Training School.
  6. One application for museum accreditation was received by the Museum Board this year. The application was presented, and a recommendation for its disposition will be approved at the next Museum Board meeting.
  7. The Museum Council discussed the response from the Ministry of Education and Culture to the Museum Council's request regarding the revision of the Museums Act.

2. Matters for decision

  1. A revised visit report for the Design Museum of Iceland was approved.

3. Other issues

The council discussed collections of responsibility. Harpa Þórsdóttir reported on the National Gallery of Iceland's strategy day and also spoke about the art donation from Íslandsbanki to the National Gallery of Iceland.
