At the end of December 2020, the Minister of Education and Culture, after receiving the Museum Council's opinion, allocated ISK 17,466,950 from the second additional allocation of the Museum Fund 2020.
In 2020, there were two additional allocations from the fund, the first in July and intended to offset the consequences that COVID-19 has had on museum operations. Now from the second additional allocation, 58 grants were awarded to 35 recognized museums, 30 grants went to digital promotion of the museums and 28 grants went to continuing education projects and courses.
The total allocation for 2020 from the museum fund is therefore ISK 234,833,950, by far the fund's highest allocation since its inception, and there are a total of 219 grants.
From the main allocation of the Museum Fund 2020 in March, 177,243,000 ISK were awarded to 124 grants, of which 13 were Excellence Grants. From the previous additional allocation of the fund, 37 grants were awarded for a total amount of 40,124,000 ISK.
