Approval and signing of the minutes of the 152nd meeting of the Museum Council
1. Presentation case
1.1. Summary of activities since the last meeting.
1.2. The status of preparations for the symposium on museums and tourism was discussed. Ideas for the agenda and the symposium secretary were presented.
1.3. Presentation and discussion on the request from the Ministry of Education and Culture for the opinion of the Museum Council on a possible collaboration between Perla Norðurðins ehf. and the Icelandic Museum of Natural History on a nature exhibition at the Perla.
2. Matters for decision
2.1 Procedures for new allocation rules approved
2.2 Museum Council Annual Report 2015 approved
2.3 The Museum Council agreed to request from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture that a smaller allocation from the museum fund be made in the autumn to recognized museums, which would initially be intended for continuing education grants to strengthen the museums' professional work.
2.4 Request to postpone the use of a grant from the Húnvetningar and Strandi Regional Museum approved. The museum has until the end of 2016 to use the grant.
2.5 Approved a request from the Herring Museum to have the Museum Board confirm that the museum's new premises meet the Museum Board's terms and conditions for museum premises.
3. Other issues
Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir, National Museum Curator, spoke about the new Conservation and Research Center of the National Museum of Iceland at Tjarnarvöllur in Hafnarfjörður, which was handed over to the museum earlier in August. This is a turning point in the storage and preservation of museums in this country, and the facilities are in the best possible condition.
