The following was approved between meetings: Annual Report of the Museum Council 2019.

1. Presentation case

  1. Summary of activities since the last meeting. Among other things, the Museum Council's memorandum to the Ministry of Education and Culture on the status of museums and the consultation meeting between the Ministry of Education and Culture and museums were reported on. The Museum Council held a presentation at the autumn meeting of the main museums on the report on COVID-19 and the Museum Council's strategy, in addition to the Museum Council and Sjá holding a seminar on Distance learning for collectors about strategy. Annual Report of Accredited Museums 2020 is up and running and is due in early November.
  2. (Main results from a survey on the state of museums in October). This item was postponed because the survey submission date was extended.
  3. Gerðarsafn issues. The Gerðarsafn Museum was discussed and the museum board's inquiry to the museum's owner and the communications, including a meeting with its owner, were reported.
  4. From the Museum Council's policy on museum work. The focus groups and questionnaire survey have been completed. Over 200 people participated in the survey and there was general agreement among the participants. A steering group will take over the work and will continue to work on the document. It is expected that the Museum Council will receive a completed final draft at the next Museum Council meeting.
  5. Application for museum recognition. One museum's application for recognition was discussed, and it was agreed to receive further information from the museum regarding specific preservation issues, cf. the Museum Council's resolution from July 2020.
  6. Second additional allocation from the museum fund 2020. The application deadline for the second additional allocation is 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Up to 15 million ISK in total will be awarded. Grants will be awarded to recognized museums for lifelong learning or for digital promotion. The fund will be allocated before the end of 2020 and the grant should be used no later than December 2021.

2. Matters for decision 

  1. Request for change in grant utilization received from one recognized collection. The request was approved.

3. Other issues

Helga Lára Þorsteinsdóttir discussed the processes involved in disposing of items owned by RÚV.
