1. Presentation case
- Summary of activities since the last meeting.
- Survey on COVID-19 AND MUSEUMS. The first results of a survey sent by the Museum Council to recognized museums and state museums were presented, requesting information about the museums' changed operating conditions and responses to C-19. The survey is a collaborative project between the Museum Council, the main museums, ICOM and FÍSOS, under the responsibility of the Museum Council and the Museum Council is managing the data. The survey was sent to 51 museums and responses were received from 47 museums.
- Statistics Iceland – collaboration on statistical information. The Museum Council and Statistics Iceland are finalizing a formal collaboration on collections of statistical information on museum activities in Iceland. The collaboration is based on Statistics Iceland receiving certain information that the Museum Council receives from recognized museums from the Annual Report of Recognized Museums and publishes under Statistics on its website. The Museum Council will also gain access to other statistical information on museum activities in the country that Statistics Iceland collects.
- Audit report for 3rd level inspectionA draft audit report for part 3 of the inspection – inspection of museum registration – was presented.
2. Matters for decision
- Museum Board Annual Report 2019. This item was postponed until the next meeting.
- Additional allocation of the museum fund 2020. An accelerated additional allocation of the 2020 Museum Fund was approved, which this time is approximately half a year earlier than usual, as museums are in urgent need due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the 2020 additional allocation of the Museum Fund, only recognized museums can apply for a grant, only one application is accepted from each recognized museum and the maximum amount of each application is 2 million ISK. At least 40 million ISK will be allocated and the grant amount must be used in the year 2020. This time, the additional allocation will be in a different format, the grant is to strengthen the professional work of the museums and the applicant marks all the professional aspects that the grant would strengthen, (a. Collection, b. Registration – general, b. Registration – copyright, c. Preservation, d. Research, e. Media – exhibition, e. Media – digital media, e. Media – publishing, e. Media – other, f. Museum education or Other). Applications will be opened no later than Friday 25 May and the application deadline is 10:00 a.m. 16:00 on Friday, June 12, 2020. As usual, applications received after the application deadline will not be considered.
