Sarpur is a registration program used by most museums in Iceland. Sarpur preserves information on works of art, artifacts, images, archaeological artifacts, buildings, folklore, and place-name descriptions, along with other material. In recent years, the museums and institutions that are members of Sarp have registered over one million records in the database, which is stored on a so-called internal web. The majority of these are now accessible on the external website. sarpur.is.

The Sarp Registration Manual, version 2.0, contains instructions for general registration in Sarp and detailed information for each data element.

The handbook is published by the National Library System, the operator of the Sarps Operating Association, which is owned by 38 member libraries.
