Association of Icelandic Museums and Museum Professionals (FÍSOS) has embarked on an interesting and important project entitled Museum Visit 2024. The goal is to draw attention to the important work that museums do and the problems that they face. Two meetings have already taken place, they were in Egilsstaðir on April 16 and in Siglufjörður on April 18. The next meeting is on April 30 in Stykkishólmur at the town hall and the last meeting will be on May 2 in Reykjavík on Lækjargata at Árbæjarsafn.
The meetings are based on discussions where, on the one hand, the importance of museums for society, their strengths, opportunities and threats, and on the other hand, what actions can be taken to raise the awareness of different groups about their importance, such as members of parliament, local governments, the public and tourism providers.
Discussions and ideas that arise during the meetings will be compiled and a status report and action plan will be prepared. The results will be presented at the Farskólinn and Subsequently, a museum interest group will be established.
Since these are brainstorming sessions, it would be best to get as many people as possible to the meetings, and everyone involved in museum work is welcome. It will not be possible to participate via teleconferencing equipment, but adding one electronic meeting is being considered.
