The Museum Council's award ceremony took place following the annual meeting of the three main museums; National Museum of Iceland, National Gallery of Iceland and Icelandic Museum of Natural History in the lecture hall of the Museum House on Hverfisgata on Tuesday, January 23rd. Agenda The meeting began at 2 pm with lectures and after that at 4 pm, Lilja D. Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Culture, gave a speech and allocated a total of ISK 176,335,000 from the main allocation of the Museum Fund 2024 to 46 beneficiaries, but with the previous Excellence allocations, the total allocation for the year is ISK 211,135,000 to 49 beneficiaries.

With the previous Excellence Awards, a total of ISK 211,135,000 has been allocated from the museum fund in 2024.
One-year scholarships There were 107 grants totaling ISK 166,335,000 to 46 beneficiaries.
Excellence Scholarships 2024-2026 There were two grants to recognized museums, totaling 10,000,000 annually from 2024-2026, a total of 30,000,000 ISK. Allocations for the years 2025 and 2026 are subject to funding from the museum fund.
There are 9 previous Excellence Grants for 2024, totaling 34,800,000 ISK.
A total of ISK 211,135,000 has therefore been allocated to 49 beneficiaries from the museum fund in 2024 through the previous Excellence Grants.

In the main allocation of the Museum Fund 2024, the fund received a total of 150 applications from 53 parties for a total amount of over 312 million ISK for the year 2024. Pursuant to the 7th paragraph of Article 22 of the Museums Act, the Minister allocates grants from the Museum Fund after receiving proposals from the Museums Council.
