The Museum Council's award ceremony was held at the National Gallery of Iceland on Monday, April 29th, following the spring meeting of the main museums, which held their spring meeting together.
At the Award Ceremony, recipients of project grants from the Museum Fund 2019 were presented with certificates of recognition and flowers, while last March, the Minister of Education and Culture, after receiving the Museum Council's opinion, allocated a total of ISK 113,850,000 from the Museum Fund for the 2019 main allocation. In addition to 37 operating grants, 85 project grants were awarded in the amount of ISK 84,250,000 to 45 parties.
The first allocation from the museum fund was in 2002, making this the eighteenth year that grants have been awarded from the museum fund. The total allocation over these 18 years has been 1,604 million ISK, and the grants total 1,854.
Over these seventeen years, a total of 1,689 grants have been awarded, 662 operating grants and 1,027 project grants.
The focus points in the last allocation were
- Collaborative projects, domestically and internationally
- Digital media
- Children and young people
There is a great deal of agreement between these priorities and the focus of the first joint spring meeting of the main museums, which was entitled Children's Culture. Many good project applications were received that were related to these priorities, and the allocation reflected this.
The Museum Board congratulates the grant recipients, you can see the grant awards of individual grant recipients here.
