Continuing education grants for recognized museums

Applications are now open for the 2018 Museum Fund's additional allocation.

In the last quarter's additional allocation of the Museum Fund, recognized museums can apply for project grants for lifelong learning, so-called lifelong learning grants. The purpose of these grants is to strengthen the professional work of the museums and enhance the aspect of lifelong learning.

Two types of grants are available, Continuing education for museum employees on the one hand and Courses/speakers However, each museum can apply for one grants of each type and the maximum amount for applications is 300,000 kr.

Please note that it is not possible to apply for grants for continuing education, courses or lectures that have already been attended or have been completed when the application deadline expires.

Continuing education for museum employees

  • Recognized museums can apply for one project grant of this type at a time. Continuing education for museum employees.
  • Continuing education grants for museum employees can be used to pursue formal education (for example, through organized courses) or for more informal study trips, such as visits to museums in Iceland and abroad, or as a travel and subsistence grant for museum staff exchanges.
  • Each grant is a maximum of 300,000 ISK.

Courses/speakers

  • Recognized museums can apply for one project grant of this type at a time. Courses/speakers.
  • This type of grant is intended as a grant for courses or lectures within Iceland that could benefit a larger group of collectors.
  • Each grant is a maximum of 300,000 ISK.

Other information about lifelong learning grants

  • Grants can be used domestically as well as abroad.
  • Other uses of grants are also possible.
  • The lifelong learning grants must be used before the end of 2019.
  • No grants will be awarded for continuing education, courses, or lectures that have been attended or completed by the application deadline.
  • The same application form is used for both types of grants, indicating which type is being applied to.

Please note that if you receive a continuing education grant, you must submit a report to the Museum Board on the use of the grant, along with confirmation that the grant has been used for continuing education.

The role of the Museum Fund is to support the work of museums that fall under the Museums Act No. 141/2011. The Museum Council provides comments on grant applications from the Museum Fund. The Minister of Education, Science and Culture allocates grants from the Museum Fund upon receipt of proposals from the Museum Council in accordance with the Museums Act and the Council's allocation rules from 29 September 2015.
