The Museum Council, in collaboration with the Icelandic Cultural Center and the Association of Icelandic Rural Associations, held a symposium on museums and tourism in the Museum Building on Hverfisgata on November 18, 2016, see news about the symposium. hereThe secretary of the symposium was Sigurlaug Dagsdóttir, an ethnographer, master's student in museum studies and part-time lecturer at the University of Iceland, and she also worked on writing a report on the symposium.
It is clear that there is both a great need and great interest in continuing to examine and strengthen collaboration between museums and tourism providers with the guiding principle that both parties benefit. With this goal in mind, the Museum Council, in collaboration with the Research Center for Museum Studies, the Tourism Research Center, the Department of Museum Studies at the University of Iceland, and the Department of Tourism Studies at the University of Iceland, will organize a seminar on academic research on museums and tourism in the fall of 2017.
