Recognized museums can apply for a continuing education grant from the Museum Fund 2016

Continuing education grants will be awarded in the fall of 2016 to strengthen the professional work of recognized museums. The purpose of these grants is to strengthen the professional work of the museums and enhance the aspect of continuing education.

  • Recognized museums can apply for continuing education grants for their employees.
  • This time, a minimum of two million ISK will be allocated.
  • Each grant will be a maximum of 250,000 ISK.
  • Each recognized museum may apply for one grant.
  • The grant can be used both domestically and internationally.
  • The grant can be used to pursue formal education (for example, through structured courses) or for more informal study trips, such as visits to museums in Iceland and abroad, or as a travel and subsistence grant for museum staff exchanges. Other uses of the grant are also possible.
  • It is planned that the fund will be distributed by December 20, 2016.
  • Lifelong learning grants must be used before the end of 2017.

The application deadline is November 11, 2016.

Please note that if you receive a continuing education grant, you must submit a report to the Museum Board on the use of the grant, along with confirmation that the grant has been used for continuing education.

The role of the Museum Fund is to support the work of museums that fall under the Museums Act No. 141/2011. The Museum Council provides comments on grant applications from the Museum Fund. The Minister of Education, Science and Culture allocates grants from the Museum Fund upon receipt of proposals from the Museum Council in accordance with the Museums Act and the Council's allocation rules from 29 September 2015.
