The position of Director of the Museum Council is open for applications.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports is advertising a vacancy for the position of Director of the Museums Council. The position will be for a period of five years with the possibility of extension.
The Museum Council operates in accordance with Act No. 141/2011 and advises the Minister of Education and Culture and other government agencies on museum matters. The role of the Museum Council is, among other things, to supervise museum activities in the country, work on policy for museum work, discuss the charters and recognition of museums, provide opinions on grant applications to the museum fund and carry out other tasks in the field of museum affairs according to further decisions of the Minister.

The main tasks of the Museum Council's Executive Director are to handle the daily operations of the Council's office, manage and follow up on its project plan, oversee the Museum Fund, and manage the Museum Council's proposals for allocations from the fund.

A university education that is useful in the job and solid knowledge of the museum board's field of work are required.

It is desirable that the person concerned can start work on October 1st. Salaries are paid according to the current collective agreements of the Icelandic Ministry of Culture. Further information is available from Eiríkur Þorláksson, specialist at the Office of Cultural Affairs.
