The Minister of Culture has allocated funds from the main allocation of the Museum Fund for 2025.
The National Council for the Arts' allocation ceremony took place in the Picture Gallery of the National Museum of Iceland on Friday, February 14, in a festive ceremony attended by distinguished guests. Culture Minister Logi Einarsson addressed the guests and made the allocations. 129 grants, totaling 217,159,500 krónur from a museum fund.
One-year grants were 114 of the total amount 163,259,500 kr. to 47 recipients.
Fellowships 2025 – 2027 to accredited museums were eight this time. The total amount is 82,300,000 kr. for all grant years and is distributed as follows: for the year 2025, 32,400,000 kr., for the year 2026, 31,900,000 kr., and for the year 2027, 18,000,000 kr.
Assignments for the years 2026 and 2027 are granted subject to the funding of the collections fund.
Total funding
The one-year grants from the Collections Fund for 2025 and for the Öndvegis Grants for 2025–2027 for 2025 are 195,659,500 kr.
ISK 21,500,000 has already been allocated for the year 2025 for the Öndvegis grants of previous years, 2023–2025 and 2024–2026.
The total funding amount for the 2025 main allocation, including pledged Centennial Grants from previous years, is therefore 217,159,500 kr.
For the 2025 main allocation of the collections fund, 159 applications were received from 47 applicants, of which 44 were recognized collections and 3 were other entities.
The Collections Fund received 10 Öndvegi applications, with the total requested amount for 2025 being 51,300,000 kr. and 128,230,000 kr. for the entire grant period from 2025 to 2027.
The Collections Fund received 149 applications for one-year grants from 47 applicants, 44 accredited museums and 3 non-profit organizations, totaling 332,909,606 kr.
The allocation meeting of the Council of Museums was held immediately following the annual meeting of the three main museums; The National Museum of Iceland, the National Gallery of Iceland, and the National Museum of Natural History of Iceland, which was held in the lecture hall of the National Museum on Friday, February 14, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
