
At the Museum Council meeting on December 14, the Council approved a proposal for the main allocation from the Museum Fund 2023, which was sent to the Minister of Culture for approval. According to Section 7 of Article 22 of the Museum Act, the Minister allocates grants from the Museum Fund after receiving proposals from the Museum Council. The Minister has now decided on the allocation of grants from the fund.
The total grant amount from the main allocation of the Museum Fund 2023 is ISK 153,010,000.
A total of 209,510,000 ISK has therefore been allocated from the museum fund in 2023 with the Excellence Allocations from the 21st-23rd and 22nd-24th.
One-year scholarships There were 101 grants totaling ISK 136,510,000 to 50 beneficiaries.
Excellence Scholarships 2023-2025 to recognized museums were five in number and are divided as follows: for the year 2023 ISK 16,500,000, for the year 2024 ISK 21,500,000 and for the year 2025 ISK 11,500,000. The total amount for the entire grant period is ISK 49,500,000. Allocations for the years 2024 and 2025 are granted subject to the financing of the museum fund.
In the main allocation of the Museum Fund 2023, the Fund received a total of 155 applications from 50 parties, from 47 recognized museums, two non-profit organizations and one individual. 143 applications were received for one-year grants for a total amount of ISK 258,491,662 and 12 Excellence applications were received for a total amount of ISK 137,650,000 for the entire grant period 2023 – 2025 and for the year 2023 ISK 43,830,000.
