The Museum Council has previously notified grantees that it is possible to request a deferral of the use of grants if projects are postponed/cancelled due to COVID-19.
DEADLINE: Grant projects that are postponed due to COVID-19 will almost always be approved. You only need to request this by email to thora@safnarad.is with information on when the grant will be used. For example, can grants for Farskóli 2020 be used for Farskóli 2021 if you wish. The rule of thumb is that the grant could be postponed for up to one year.
This applies to both grants from the main allocation in 2019 and 2020 and the additional allocation in 2019.
CHANGE IN UTILIZATION OF STRENGTH: It is also possible to request a change in the use of a grant, if the new use of the grant complies with the rules for the grant, it is likely to be approved. If the museum wants to go that route, an email should be sent to thora@safnarad.is about how the grant will be used and include the same information in the mail as requested in the application form.
This applies in particular to grants from the 2019 supplementary allocation (lifelong learning grants), and most of these requests are approved if the conditions are met. For grants from the 2019 and 2020 main allocations, more detailed justification is required and will be discussed at a museum council meeting.
Please note that all grants from the accelerated additional allocation 2020 (as of June 2020) must be used in 2020 – those grants are expected to be COVID-19 support for the year 2020 and it is not possible to get a deadline for the use of those grants.
