Now open for applications from the additional allocation of the museum fund 2019, the application deadline is extended to 4:00 PM on Monday, November 25, 2019.
In the last quarter's additional allocation of the Museum Fund, recognized museums can apply for grants for lifelong learning, so-called lifelong learning grants. The purpose of these grants is to strengthen the professional work of the museums and enhance the aspect of lifelong learning.
Two categories of grants are available, Continuing education for museum employees on the one hand and Courses/speakers However, grants can be used both domestically and internationally. The same application form is used for both grant categories, with the category being marked.
The fund will be allocated before the end of 2019 and the grant must be used no later than December 2020.
Please note that it is not possible to apply for grants for continuing education, courses or lectures that have already been attended or have already been completed. The application deadline has ended.
Continuing education for museum employees
- Recognized museums can submit at any time TWO applications for grants from the category Continuing education for museum employees.
- Each museum can receive a maximum of two grants from this category.
- A lifelong learning grant for museum employees can be used, for example, to pursue formal education in Iceland or abroad (including through organized courses or visits) or as a travel and subsistence grant for museum staff exchanges.
- Each grant will be a maximum 300,000 krónur.
Courses/speakers
Museums apply alone:
- Recognized museums can submit at any time ONLY application for a grant from the category Courses/speakers.
- Each museum can receive a maximum of one grant from this category (see exception for collaborative projects between recognized museums).
- This category of grant is intended as a grant for courses or lectures within Iceland that could benefit a larger group of collectors.
- Each grant will be a maximum 300,000 krónur.
Collaborative projects of recognized museums:
- Recognized museums can also apply in collaboration for a grant from the category. Courses/speakersIf the collaboration is between at least two recognized museums, additional parties may also participate in these grant applications.
- This application does not affect the museums' ability to apply. Courses/speakers when the museums are alone.
- This category of grant is intended as a grant for courses or lectures within Iceland that could benefit a larger group of collectors.
- If museums apply in collaboration, each grant can be a maximum of 600,000 krónur.
The role of the Museum Fund is to support the work of museums that fall under the Museums Act No. 141/2011. The Museum Council provides comments on grant applications from the Museum Fund. The Minister of Education, Culture and Sports allocates grants from the Museum Fund upon receipt of proposals from the Museum Council in accordance with the Museums Act and the Museum Fund Allocation Rules No. 551/2016, confirmed by the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports on 1 June 2016.
Please note that if you receive a continuing education grant, you must submit a report to the Museum Board on the use of the grant, along with confirmation that the grant has been used for continuing education.
