Application for recognition of a museum according to the Museums Act

Open for applications until August 31, 2018

The Museum Council would like to remind you that the last date for submitting applications for recognition according to the Museums Act No. 141/2011, in order for the application to be processed before the application deadline for the museum fund for 2019 expires, is August 31, 2018Applications received after that time will not be processed until after the 2019 museum fund allocation has been completed.

Attention is drawn to the fact that a new form for applying for museum recognition is valid from July 2018, and that it was agreed at the 174th Museum Council meeting to request additional information for an application for museum recognition in addition to the data and information currently requested.

Application form can be found here, the following documents must accompany the application: 

  • Confirmation from the owner and/or board of the museum that recognition is requested.
  • Copy of the annual accounts for 2017.
  • A copy of the current policy.
  • Copy of collection policy.
  • Copies of emergency plans.
  • A copy of the last fire safety inspection.
  • Copy of operating license from the health inspectorate.
  • Copy of the latest security systems audit.
  • A copy of confirmation of secure financial contributions for the next five years that will ensure the basic operations of the museum.
  • A copy of the operating plan for the next five years.
  • Applicant Summary Report for recognition, filled in Museum Council application website.

Only accredited museums other than state-owned museums can apply for operating grants from the fund. All accredited museums can apply for grants for defined projects. Further information on accreditation of museums can be found here.
