Applications are open for the 2018 Museum Fund's main allocation.
The role of the Museum Fund is to support the work of museums that fall under the Museums Act No. 141/2011. To that end, the Fund may support the operations and define projects of recognized museums and collaborative projects between such museums.
The Museum Council provides comments on grant applications from the Museum Fund. The Minister of Education, Culture and Sports allocates grants from the Museum Fund upon receipt of proposals from the Museum Council in accordance with the Museums Act and the Council's allocation rules from 29 September 2015.
The main allocation of the Museum Fund includes both project grants and operating grants from the Museum Fund. The amount and number of grants awarded are determined by the Fund's available funds as well as the number and quality of applications.
Project grants: All recognized museums can apply for grants for defined projects. The fund is also authorized to support other activities to promote professional museum work. Other museums, museum guides, centers and exhibitions can benefit from grants from the Museum Fund for defined projects in collaboration with recognized museums.
Operating grants: Recognized museums according to the Museums Act No. 141/2011 can apply for operating grants from the fund to strengthen their activities. Recognized state-owned museums and recognized museums that receive operating grants from the budget will not receive operating grants from the Museums Fund in the same year, but can apply for project grants.
Please note that according to the Museum Fund's allocation rules, a recognized museum can apply for an operating grant to:
1. strengthen the professional activities of the museum and strengthen its operations,
2. strengthen innovation in the museum's operations and activities,
3. strengthen the operation of a museum that has merged with other cultural institutions,
4. strengthen the museum's collaboration with non-governmental organizations, institutions and other parties through agreements on the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage.
