Appointment of the Director of the Museum Council

The Museum Council has appointed Ágústa Kristófersdóttir as the Council's Executive Director.

Ágústa has a BA in History and Art History and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Museology. She has extensive experience in museum work and has worked in that field since 1993. First at the Reykjavík Museum of Art, Árbæjarsafn and then as Head of the Exhibitions Department at the Reykjavík Art Museum and Director of Exhibitions at the National Museum of Iceland. She has also worked in the social affairs of museum workers and was chair of the FÍSOS Association of Icelandic Museums and Museum Owners from 2007-2009.

Ágústa has served as the Director of the Museum Council on and off since 2010 in a variety of capacities.

A total of 44 people applied for the position. The recruitment process was overseen by Capacent, but the final decision on hiring was made at a meeting of the museum board.
