Applications have been opened for the accelerated additional allocation of the Museum Fund 2020. This time, the additional allocation of the Museum Fund is coming approximately six months earlier than usual, as there is an urgent need for museums due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the additional allocation of the Museum Fund, only recognized museums can apply for funding., applications from other parties are not accepted, they are referred to the main allocation of the museum fund.
This time, the extra allocation is in a different format, The grant is intended to strengthen the professional work of the museums. and the applicant ticks everyone the professional aspects that the grant would strengthen, (a. Collection, b. Registration – general, b. Registration – copyright, c. Preservation, d. Research, e. Media – exhibition, e. Media – digital media, e. Media – publishing, e. Media – other, f. Museum studies or Other).
Only one application should be submitted from each recognized collection, and the maximum amount for each application is 2 million ISK. At least 40 million ISK will be allocated. The grant amount must be used in 2020.
The deadline for applications for the grant is 4:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2020. Applications received after the application deadline will not be considered.

- A grant proposal is not automatically made to all applicants who meet the requirements of the Act on Recognized Museums, but the amounts and number of grants will depend on the fund's available funds and the number and quality of applications.
- All grant recipients submit a final report on the use of the grant.

- The Minister of Education, Science and Culture allocates grants from the Museum Fund upon receipt of proposals from the Museum Council.
