The Council of Museums, Íslandstofa, and the Association of Icelandic Municipalities are hosting a symposium on museums and tourism, where the role and status of museums and related activities in Icelandic tourism will be discussed. The symposium is sponsored by the National Museum of Iceland.
The museum sector in Iceland has grown significantly in recent years, and surveys of foreign tourists have revealed a strong interest in Icelandic culture and history.Museums are considered an important part of tourism, but there is a need to strengthen their role and status within the industry.
