Applications for the 2015 Museum Fund

The Museum Council is advertising applications for grants from the Museum Fund in 2015. The role of the Museum Fund is to support the work of museums that fall under the Museums Act No. 141/2011. The Museum Council makes a proposal to the Minister of Education, Culture and Science for allocation from the fund in accordance with the Museums Act and the Council's allocation rules from 18 September 2013. Three museums receive recognition

The Minister of Education and Culture has now, at the proposal of the Museums Council, granted recognition to the Bustarfell Museum, the Museums Museum and the Sheep Centre in Strandur according to the Museums Act. The museums applied for a re-instatement of the previous decision on the basis of new evidence and the Museums Council considered a proposal for their recognition at its meeting in May. Museum accreditation, annual application deadline

The Museum Council has agreed that the last date for submitting applications for recognition under the Museums Act, in order for the application to be processed before the application deadline for the Museum Fund expires, is 31 August each year. Museum Council's strategy revised

At a meeting of the Museum Council in February, it was agreed to postpone the continuation of the Council's strategy development and entrust the Chairman of the Council with the implementation of the next steps. The steering group that has been working on the strategy submitted the data it had collected, including a summary of consultation meetings with museum members.

Museum Council Annual Report 2013

The Museum Council's annual report for 2013 was approved at the 131st meeting of the council on April 10. The report provides an overview of the council's activities last year.
