Museum Council's strategy revised

At a meeting of the Museum Council in February, it was agreed to postpone the continuation of the Council's strategy development and entrust the Chairman of the Council with the implementation of the next steps. The steering group that has been working on the strategy submitted the data it had collected, including a summary of consultation meetings with museum members.

Museum Council Annual Report 2013

The Museum Council's annual report for 2013 was approved at the 131st meeting of the council on April 10. The report provides an overview of the council's activities last year. An overview and analysis of allocations from the Museum Fund in 2013, as well as information on the operations of museums that received funding from the fund. See the report here.

Utilization of grants from the museum fund 2013

The Minister of Education and Culture has now allocated funds from the Museum Fund following a proposal from the Museum Council. Letters have been sent to applicants. The Minister of Education, Science and Culture has considered the proposal of the Museums Council from 18 December 2013 on the recognition of museums according to the Museums Act No. 141/2011. The Minister, on the basis of the Council's proposal, granted recognition to 39 museums. Changes to the composition of the Museum Council

There will be some changes to the composition of the Museum Council in the new year. At the beginning of the year, Ragna Árnadóttir, vice-chairwoman of the Council, resigned as a member of the Museum Council. In her place, Anna Sigríður Kristjánsdóttir has been appointed as the second representative of the Minister to the Council and will succeed Ragna as vice-chairwoman of the Council. Museum recognition

At its 128th meeting on December 18, the Museum Council approved a proposal for the recognition of museums. It has now been sent to the Minister of Education and Culture, who by law makes the final decision on the recognition of museums. As soon as the Minister has made a decision, the result will be announced to the museums that applied for recognition.

Application deadline for the museum fund has passed.

The application deadline for the museum fund expired on December 31st. Applications will now be considered by the council, which will send a proposal for allocation from the fund to the Minister of Education and Culture. The minister will allocate from the museum fund.
