The Museum Council is advertising for applications for grants from the main allocation of the Museum Fund in 2018.

Applications are open for the 2018 Museum Fund main allocation. The role of the Museum Fund is to support the work of museums that fall under the Museums Act No. 141/2011. To that end, the fund can support the operations and defined projects of recognized museums and collaborative projects between such museums. Open for submission of the Annual Report of Accredited Museums 2017

The Museum Council is, according to the Museums Act No. 141/2011, tasked with supervising accredited museums that operate in accordance with the Museum Council's terms and conditions for the operation of accredited museums. The Museum Council is advertising applications for continuing education grants to recognized museums.

Professional Development Grants for Accredited Museums. In the Museums Council's supplemental allocation last quarter, accredited museums can apply for project grants for professional development, so-called professional development grants. The purpose of these grants is to strengthen the professional work of the museums and to enhance the role of continuing education. Changes to procedures approved

At the 164th meeting of the Collections Council on September 5, 2017, changes were approved to the Procedure for Evaluating Applications for Grants from the Collections Fund (commonly called the procedural rules) to align with changes that have occurred since last year. Notably, a section on supplemental allocations from the museum fund was added. The procedures can be viewed here.

The annual application deadline for museum recognition is August 31st.

The Museum Council would like to remind you that the last date for submitting applications for recognition under the Museums Act, in order for the application to be processed before the application deadline for the 2018 Museum Fund expires, is August 31, 2017. New Museum Council website launched

The new website of the Museums Council at the URL www.safnarad.is opened on July 20th with a new and improved look. The new site is more accessible than before and easier to access information. The design of the site was in the hands of web designer Jón Ingi Stefánsson and the web editor was Margrét Sveinbjörnsdóttir at Brúarsmiðjan.  

Cultural Heritage Collection Policy Published

The publication of the new Cultural Heritage Museum Policy (National Museum of Iceland 2017) and its implementation in cooperation with the Museum Council aims to promote the further advancement of museum work and professionalism in the field of cultural heritage museums.
