Christmas greetings from the museum board

The Museum Council wishes all museum members and citizens a Merry Christmas and thanks them for the year that is passing. The Museum Council office will be closed over Christmas and will reopen on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.

The University of Iceland Art Museum has been granted the status of a recognized museum.

The Minister of Education, Science and Culture has considered the proposal of the Museums Council from 10 October 2017 on the recognition of museums according to the Museums Act No. 141/2011. At the proposal of the Council, the Minister granted recognition to one museum, the Art Museum of the University of Iceland. The Museums Council is accepting applications for recognition for processing in 2018 until 31 August 2018. Further information about the application process can be found here.

Allocation of continuing education grants to recognized museums 2017

The Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, after receiving the opinion of the Museum Council, has allocated continuing education grants from the additional allocation of the Museum Fund to recognized museums in 2017. In the additional allocation of the Museum Fund in the last quarter, recognized museums can apply for project grants for continuing education, so-called continuing education grants. The purpose of these grants is to strengthen the professional work of the museums and strengthen the aspect of continuing education.
