International Museum Day is celebrated on May 18th each year, and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has been organizing the day since 1977.
Each year, ICOM selects a theme for International Museum Day that relates to issues at the forefront of society. This year's theme is „Great is the power of collections.“
Icelandic Museum Awards 2022 were then presented for the thirteenth time on International Museum Day, May 18, and received Akureyri Museum the award this time and sincerely congratulates the museum on the award.
Also nominated for the award were the Museum of Municipal History in Garður, the Gerðarsafn Museum, the Design Museum of Iceland, and the Icelandic Herring Museum.
