The Icelandic section of the International Council on Museums\u00a0<strong>(ICOM<\/strong>) and the Association of Icelandic Museums and Museum Professionals (<strong>F\u00cdSOS<\/strong>They jointly sponsor the award, which is a biennial recognition given to an Icelandic museum for outstanding work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award this time went to the Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum for its progressive outreach work, and in the selection committee's review, it says, among other things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A core principle of the Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum's outreach is that everyone can connect with art, past and present, on their own terms. Visitors of all ages, ethnicities, and interests or abilities are encouraged to explore and discover, and especially to participate in the museum's outreach activities. The museum strives to tailor its exhibitions and other outreach with the goal of creating meaningful and enjoyable art experiences for city residents and other visitors.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In its mediation work, the Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum demonstrates great ambition and innovation in effectively reaching its diverse target audiences.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The museums that also received a nomination for the award were Ger\u00f0arsafn for the connection between its internal and external museum activities, and the National Gallery of Iceland for&nbsp;<em>Vision \u2013 training in visual literacy<\/em>, Sau\u00f0fj\u00e1rsetur \u00e1 Str\u00f6ndum for a community-based approach to museum work and the National Museum of Iceland for&nbsp;<em>With the works of the hands<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selection committee consisted of Bergsveinn \u00de\u00f3rsson, associate professor at the University of Bifr\u00f6st; Helga Einarsd\u00f3ttir, project manager in the education department of the Althingi; Sigr\u00fan Kristj\u00e1nsd\u00f3ttir, exhibition manager at the \u00c1rni Magn\u00fasson Institute; and Sigr\u00ed\u00f0ur \u00d6rvarsd\u00f3ttir, director of the Cultural Center of \u00deingeyjar. Haraldur \u00de\u00f3r Egilsson was the chairman of the committee on behalf of the Akureyri Museum, which received the award in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sigr\u00fan Brynja Einarsd\u00f3ttir, Director of the Ministry of Culture and Commerce, presented the awards at the National Museum on Hverfisgata, and great joy reigned among museum staff who had gathered in large numbers for the event to celebrate the flourishing activities of museums in Iceland today.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum received the 2024 Museum Award On International Museum Day on May 18, the Icelandic Museum Award was presented at a ceremony.
