The group consisted of the Museum Council itself, the directors of the main museums, and Museum Council staff.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At the Regional Museum in Sk\u00f3gar, the director of the museum, Andri Gu\u00f0mundsson, welcomed the museum board and led through the history and exhibitions of the museum. The regional museum preserves and displays the cultural heritage of Rang\u00e6ing and Vestur-Skaftfell, where various species are taught.<\/p>\n<p>In the Maritime Department, there is an interesting collection of artifacts related to Southern Iceland maritime history. One of the highlights of the museum is the eight-masted P\u00e9tursey, built in 1855 and in use until 1946. The boat was specially built for surfers on the sandy shores of South Iceland.<\/p>\n<div>Various other curious artifacts can be found there, such as a special number plate that was for a long time above the altar in Steinakirkja under the Eyjafj\u00f6ll mountains, but the plate is from a coffin lid that must have been from the Indian Expedition. <em>The Coat of Arms of Amsterdam<\/em> who stranded on Skei\u00f0ar\u00e1rsi<span style=\"font-size: 1.1em;\">in 1667.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3600 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230911_160239-300x139.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"285\" srcset=\"https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230911_160239-300x139.jpg 300w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230911_160239-1024x473.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230911_160239-768x355.jpg 768w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230911_160239-24x11.jpg 24w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230911_160239-36x17.jpg 36w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230911_160239-48x22.jpg 48w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230911_160239.jpg 1389w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.1em;\">\u00a0<\/span>The village is an outdoor exhibition area with a variety of houses from previous years, ranging from turf farms, a church and a typical school building from the early 20th century. There was also a look behind the scenes, which is no less interesting for museum enthusiasts to explore storage spaces large and small.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3605 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5837-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>We then headed to Herj\u00f3lf and sailed to the Vestmannaeyjar Islands where the group was warmly welcomed. The Museum Board visited Sagnheima\/Vestmannaeyjar Museum where Sigurhanna Fri\u00f0\u00fe\u00f3rsd\u00f3ttir, the museum director of Sagnheima, guided us through the museum&#039;s exhibitions along with K\u00e1ri Bjarnason, the museum director.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3609 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-18x24.jpg 18w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-27x36.jpg 27w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-36x48.jpg 36w, https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_5795-2-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Sagnheimar preservation house was also visited and the museum&#039;s future plans were discussed, in addition, the group received a guided tour with K\u00e1ri Bjarnason of the Skansen, the stave church and Landlyst.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The group looked around the SeaLife Trust\/S\u00e6heimar visitor centre where items from the old natural history museum are on display. There was also a habitat for mergansers and other fish as well as a sanctuary for injured puffins, where the Vestmannaeyjar puffin population is being studied.
