Minutes of the 6th meeting of the Museum Council, at Lyng\u00e1s 7, Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r,
\n April 19, 2002, at 9:00 AM.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Present were: Margr\u00e9t Hallgr\u00edmsd\u00f3ttir, \u00c1lfhei\u00f0ur Ingad\u00f3ttir, \u00d3lafur Kvaran, and \u00deorgeir \u00d3lafsson. J\u00f3hann \u00c1smundsson was on the phone. Au\u00f0ur Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir, archivist of the National Museum of Iceland, took the minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Minutes. The minutes of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th meetings were presented and approved.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Grants to museums 2002.
\n The decision on grant awards for the Agricultural Museum at Hvanneyri, the Borgarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Museum, the Akureyri Museum, and the Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum was discussed. There was some discussion on the matter.
\n The Farm Machinery Museum at Hvanneyri did not receive a grant due to the provisions of Article 10 of the Museum Act concerning state-run museums.
\n Borgarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Museum House. An operating grant was awarded to the Folk Museum, while project grants were awarded to the Art Museum and the Natural History Museum. The operating grant was intended to be used for the production of the exhibition.
\n The Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum was awarded a grant for the cataloging of Kjarval's works.
\n The Museum of Akureyri, a project grant is intended, among other things, to strengthen cooperation among museums in Eyjafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.
\n It was decided that in the future, the procedure will be that the allocation by the board of trustees will clearly state which projects the grant is intended for.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Grants to museums 2003.
\n An announcement regarding grant awards for museums for the year 2003 will be published in May\/June on the National Museum's website, in Morgunbla\u00f0i\u00f0, Sveitarstj\u00f3rnarm\u00e1l, the L\u00f6gbirtingabla\u00f0i\u00f0, and on Safnalistinn. It should be especially noted that applications for registration in Sarpi are exempt from funding.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Regulations and Procedures of the Collection Council.
\n MH presented a draft of the council's policy program for the committee members' review, and written comments from the councilors were requested for the next meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Staff member of the Board of Trustees.
\n It is very urgent to hire a staff member for the museum board. TH said the matter is with the ministry's legal and administrative department. MH said that the National Museum would likely be able to handle the financial administration for the Museum Council, provided that an administrative fee is paid for the National Museum's tasks. MH will discuss the matter with the minister.<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Received items.
\n Application from Glaumb\u00e6r, the Skagafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Regional Museum, for registration in Sarp.
\n It was agreed that a grant of ISK 100,000 would be awarded.<\/span><\/p>\n

The application from the \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Art Museum was deferred to the 2003 grant cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Presentation for an exhibition in the Faroe Islands: Hunting Culture in the North. Approximately 20 items will be loaned from Iceland. The National Board of Cultural Properties hereby authorizes the National Museum of Iceland to advance the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Request from Kongenes Jelling in Jelling, Denmark, for a loan of two artifacts for an exhibition there. The Collections Council approves the request.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Collection Policy of the Herring Museum in Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and the annual evaluations for the year 2001 were presented.<\/span><\/p>\n
