Minutes of the 14th meeting of the museum board, at Lyng\u00e1s 7, Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r,
\n January 30, 2003, at 11:30 a.m.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Present were: Margr\u00e9t Hallgr\u00edmsd\u00f3ttir, Ragnhei\u00f0ur H. \u00de\u00f3rarinsd\u00f3ttir, \u00c1lfhei\u00f0ur Ingad\u00f3ttir, J\u00f3n Gunnar Ott\u00f3sson, \u00d3lafur Kvaran, J\u00f3hann \u00c1smundsson, and G\u00edsli Sverrir \u00c1rnason. Au\u00f0ur Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir took the minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The minutes of the 13th meeting were presented and approved.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Applications for the position of Staff Member of the Board of Trustees
\n<\/span> 24 applications were received for the position. The board members had received a list of applicants with the meeting notice. Applicants with experience in library work, management, and an education relevant to the job were considered the strongest candidates. Applications were reviewed based on these criteria, and it was decided to interview 5 candidates on January 31, 2003. The goal will be to finalize the selection of a staff member at the next Museum Board meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Procedures of the Collection Council 2003-2005
\n<\/span> The procedures of the museum board were reviewed in light of comments received from board members, and the procedures were approved. The allocation rules for the museum fund were then reviewed. The procedures and allocation rules will be sent to the Ministry of Education for approval.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Definition of the term \"collection\"
\n<\/span> There was a discussion about the concept of a collection. The attendees agreed to use the definition in Article 4 of the Museums Act No. 106\/2001.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Proposal for a grant from the 2003 Collections Fund
\n<\/span> A proposal was made to create a list of the museums that have applied for a grant from the museum fund and meet the requirements of the law regarding the right to grants, see Articles 4 and 10.\u00a0 It was agreed to convene a meeting on February 6, 2003, to finalize the list, which needed to be prepared before the grant proposals would be reviewed.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Message to the Museum Council
\n<\/span> Presentation by Gar\u00f0ar Gu\u00f0mundsson, the Icelandic Institute of Archaeology, on a permit for the temporary export of bones from archaeological excavations at Hofsta\u00f0ir, Sveigakot, Steinbogi, G\u00e1sar, and Sk\u00e1lholt in the summer of 2002. A report from the State Antiquities Preservation Office, dated January 30, 2003, was presented. It was approved to permit the export of the bones.<\/span><\/p>\n

Request from Gu\u00f0n\u00fd Zo\u00ebga, Curator of Eastland, for permission to send samples for C-14 dating from human bones found at Skeggjasta\u00f0ir, Bakkafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in August 2002. A report from the National Monuments Council, dated January 30, 2003, was presented. It was approved to permit the export of the samples.<\/span><\/p>\n
