To be eligible to apply for operating support from the museum fund, a museum must be <a href=\"http:\/\/safnarad.is\/en\/vidurkennd-sofn\/skilyrdi-vidurkenningar\/\">Accredited museum<\/a> according to. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.althingi.is\/lagas\/nuna\/2011141.html\">Article 10 of the Museums Act No. 141\/2011<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The annual deadline for applications for accreditation is <strong>August 31<\/strong> each year, unless otherwise stated. If an application is received after that time, it cannot be guaranteed that it will be processed for the application deadline for the next distribution from the collection fund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">The template can be downloaded and filled out. It should then be sent to the collection committee along with other documents.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/safnarad.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Ums\u00f3kn-um-vi\u00f0urkenningu-safns20.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here<\/a> A template for a museum accreditation application can be found.<\/h3>\n<p><strong><span class=\"s3\">The following documents must accompany the application:<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Confirmation from the owner and\/or board of the museum that recognition is requested.<\/li>\n<li>Copy of the annual report for the last fiscal year.<\/li>\n<li>A copy of the current policy.<\/li>\n<li>Copy of collection policy.<\/li>\n<li>Copies of emergency plans.<\/li>\n<li>A copy of the last fire safety inspection.<\/li>\n<li>Copy of operating license from the health inspectorate.<\/li>\n<li>Copy of the latest security systems audit.<\/li>\n<li>A copy of confirmation of secure financial contributions for the next five years that will ensure the basic operations of the museum.<\/li>\n<li>A copy of the operating plan for the next five years.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/safnarad.eydublod.is\/Forms?fbclid=IwAR2K5S4WY_B87rP9SBSLOX72pLM6jmh9WJCqzQZ5TfYNhsfOiCV-TZAZI84\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Applicant Summary Report<\/a>\u00a0for recognition, filled in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/safnarad.is\/en\/umsoknavefur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Museum Council application website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Applicants are reminded to save the template before filling it out so that no information is lost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Electronic applications are accepted via email to the following address: <a href=\"mailto:safnarad@safnarad.is\">safnarad@safnarad.is<\/a><br \/>\nAdditional documents, if applicable, can also be sent by mail to:<\/p>\n<p><em>Museum Council<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 5 Austurstr\u00e6ti, 4th floor<\/em><br \/>\n<em> 101 Reykjavik<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The above-mentioned data must accompany the application for approval, based on <a href=\"https:\/\/safnarad.is\/en\/vidurkennd-sofn\/skilyrdi-vidurkenningar\/reglugerd-um-vidurkenningu-safna-nr-9002013\/\">Regulation on the accreditation of museums No. 900\/2013<\/a> and the Board of Trustees' approval of a more detailed definition from September 2013, as well as additions from the Board of Trustees on 06\/26\/2018 and 07\/02\/2020<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resolutions from June 26, 2018<\/strong> \u2013 additional information to accompany the application:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Confirmation of secure funding for the next five years to guarantee the museum's basic operations, as well as an operating plan (based on Article 1 of the regulations).<\/li>\n<li>Confirmation from the owner and\/or board of the museum that accreditation is requested.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Bylaws as of July 2, 2020<\/strong> <strong>\u2013 Implementation of an accreditation process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If a collection that applies for accreditation and meets all accreditation requirements, then it may result in<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Council shall send a member of its supervisory committee, or another competent person, to inspect the facilities of the museum applying for accreditation. The visit would consider the same aspects as those set forth in the inspection and evaluation reports of Part 2 of the Council's supervision of accredited museums.<\/li>\n<li>that the collection board calls upon an expert to evaluate other data on which the operation is based, such as building drawings, assessments, accessibility, permits, or to inspect the premises itself if necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The Museum Council reserves the right to revise this list and update it in line with any changes that may occur in professional standards, laws and regulations.<\/li>\n<li>In its assessment of applications for recognition, the Museum Council will take into account special circumstances that may exist if they are adequately justified and a plan for improvement is presented.<\/li>\n<li>In cases where a parent collection in the relevant field has not issued criteria or guidelines, collections shall follow the guidelines of other parent collections, as applicable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">The Museum Council makes recommendations for the recognition of museums, which are formally recognized by the Minister of Culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"accordion-1\" class=\"accordion no-js\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p3\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t1\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tInternational Code of Conduct for Collections\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c1\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span style=\"color: #8a8a8d; font-family: gibson_web, Gibson, sans-serif; font-size: 1.6em;\">ICOM, International Council of Museums<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">According to item 7 of Article 10 of the Museums Act No. 141\/2011, Icelandic museums are required to adhere to the ICOM Code of Ethics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">ICOM, the International Council of Museums, serves society and its development by safeguarding cultural heritage and cultural products. ICOM operates through national and professional committees that focus on specific areas of museum work.
