The Collection Council is an administrative committee that operates according to Museums Act No. 141\/2011<\/a> and its main role is to oversee museum activities in the country, work on policy for museum work, review museum accreditations, and provide opinions on grant applications to the museum fund. The Minister of Culture appoints the Museum Council for four-year terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The office of the council of museums is housed in 5 Austurstr\u00e6ti, 101 Reykjav\u00edk.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Role of the Museum Council pursuant to Article 7 of the Museum Act<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    a. to supervise the collection of donations in the country
    b. to work on strategic planning for museum work in cooperation with major museums, to be submitted to the minister for approval.
    c. to consider the founding documents or bylaws of associations and approve them
    d. to discuss the recognition of museums and the revocation of recognition before related proposals are submitted to the minister
    e. to set terms regarding museum housing, including standards for accessibility and security
    To set standards for collection registration systems and the accreditation of such systems.
    g. to provide the relevant principal repository with an opinion on matters concerning the disposition or disposal of collection items.
    h. to assess the need of a professional field or a geographical area for a special collection and to discuss a proposal concerning it before the main library sends it to the minister.
    i. to establish allocation rules for the museum fund, which are confirmed by the minister
    j. to provide an opinion on grant applications from the collections fund
    k. to carry out other tasks in the field of museum affairs as determined by the minister<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Museum Council shall convene a consultation meeting at least annually with the minister and representatives of the national museums and the professional associations involved in the museums' work. The Museum Council shall draw up rules on the procedure for the consultation meeting, the participants, and the agenda, which shall be approved by the minister.
